The secret’s out…sometimes more than one of these are filmed in a day. You have Jamie to thank for ruining that. This week is all about eating shoes, most hated foods, and the fact that Andy Murray lives off a diet of haggis and deep fried Mars bars. True fact.

Best soundbite: “If you make a tomato hat and then come to it at the end of the day…boom, you’ve got sun dried tomatoes” – Jamie Spafford

It’s always interesting seeing how food likes/dislikes change. I hated carrots, brussels sprouts, broccoli, and cauliflower as a kid. Turns out I just hated how Mom made them. I eat all of those on a regular basis now. Brussels sprouts are now one of the foods I’ll eat anyway I can get them. I find asparagus too bitter though and cilantro tastes like soap.

For books I’ve got The Culinary Imagination: from myth to modernity by Sandra M. Gilbert. Haven’t had a chance to get started yet, but it looks good.

I didn’t like olives either, but my Bisnonna (great-grandma) shamed me into eating them (love that italian family) and eventually I just got used to eating them and now I like them

Another peanut butter hater here. Like peanuts though.

Another question for the Grilled segment: What are your guilty pleasures?

Hate peanut butter but I learnt to love sprouts, purple ones are sweeter than the usual green, you don’t get that bitter taste as strongly from them.

Can’t remember whether you guys have done this as a fact before but it’s one my go-to food facts. It’s quite possible that you, Jamie, will never like Brussel Sprouts. It’s actually been scientifically proven that there’s a chemical in sprouts that causes a reaction with a chemical in some humans so that causes them to not like them. But some people who do like sprouts don’t have this bodily chemical so therefore there’s no reaction. 🙂
