The most amazing food experience that Elle has ever had was visiting Ottolenghi’s restaurant Nopi with her mum. They ordered loads of little sharing plates and one stood out in particular. She raved about it for days afterwards: the courgette and manouri fritters with lime and cardamom sour cream.
<!– –><!– –>
She remembers biting into one of these unassuming little rugby-ball-shaped fritters and feeling like she couldn't actually believe how gorgeous they were. Soft and crispy at the same time and salty from the manouri cheese, but also fresh and not at all heavy. Just as she thought it was perfection in itself, she noticed the little pot of green- speckled sour cream on the edge of the plate and this just elevated the fritters to the next level with its creaminess and subtle acidity from the lime.
<!– –><!– –>
It was the first time since moving to London that Elle had taken her mum out to a restaurant. It felt like such a big deal for her. It was her "look, Mum, your little girl is living in the big city and taking you out for a fancy meal" moment. She has been a fan of Ottolenghi's recipes for years and it had been pure luck to get a last-minute table at Nopi on the night that she was visiting. The restaurant experience was almost dream-like (although that might have been due in part to the cocktails beforehand), with the white shiny walls and the bright lighting and the impeccably-timed waiting staff who swooped in and out to lay yet another beautiful tasting plate under their eyes.
<!– –><!– –>
Elle hasn’t eaten the dish again since her visit to Nopi. The restaurant has left such a deep impression in her mind that she would like to take her whole family back there at some point, perhaps for a special occasion. She will definitely be trying the recipe soon and will see if she can recreate them, or at least a slightly rustic version of them.
<!– –><!– –>
<!– –>
<!– –>
<!– –>
<!– –><!– –>[/wcm_restrict]
